It's time once more for another exciting episode of the International Coffee Traders "Roasters Jam", proudly sponsored by Maleny Dairies and hosted at The Coffee Commune.
Previously, Justin from Coffee Alliance walked away with the People's Choice Trophy for favorite interpretation of the coffee, not to mention the bragging rights and eternal glory. The coffee for that session was a red honey processed coffee from Finca Los Vindas in Costa Rica. This coffee was a tough challenge, and our next bean won't be any easier!
In 2022 the Roasters Jam was a cupping-based event, highlighting the nuanced flavour profile of the bean. This year we are shaking things up by basing the competition on roasting for espresso and serving milk-based coffee to the audience.
The green beans will be sent out a couple of weeks prior to the event and the roasters will be asked to roast for espresso, experiment with extraction, and come up with a 4oz full cream dairy-based recipe. They will fill out a PowerPoint presentation to be shown on the evening, in which they discuss their approach to roasting and extracting the mystery coffee.
On the night of the event, the roasters will provide 1kg of what they think represents the best roast profile of the coffee. Using the roasters unique recipe, the competition baristas will then prepare each coffee and serve to the audience. Using a cupping format, the assembled throng of caffeine aficionados will then taste and vote, using poker chips, for their favorite cup. After which, everybody will gather together to watch the short presentations from each roaster.
Once all has been said and done, the favorite cup will be announced, and the trophy presented.
Can't wait to see you all there.
